Biography
She received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Chemistry from The University of Tokyo (crystallography and spectroscopy of transition-metal complexes). She worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Chemistry and then Research Fellow/Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Biophysics at King’s College London. Her research interests have expanded to DNA-carcinogen/anti-cancer drug interactions and molecular biology techniques. She worked at Institute of Cancer Research UK as a permanent senior staff scientist. She went back to Japan in 1986 as an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, College of Arts and Sciences, The University of Tokyo. She was promoted to a full Professor in 1992, the first woman full professor of natural sciences at The University of Tokyo. She worked in the Department of Life Sciences, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and in the Department of Biophysics and Biochemistry, Graduate School of Sciences. She moved to Research Institute for Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science in 2012, and then to Institute of Science and Technology Research, Chubu University in 2019.
